Reverse Mortgage Counseling

Reverse mortgages are loans designed specifically for older homeowners. They allow a homeowner to borrow against the value of their home without incurring a monthly payment obligation. The loan can remain in place, without any payments, until the homeowner leaves the home permanently. To be eligible, a borrower must be over age 62, live in their home, and have a substantial amount of equity in the home.

In addition, we recommend these resources for those exploring their options for reverse mortgages:

Speakers Bureau

Are you looking for a speaker for an organization that involves people with aging parents, spouses, or friends? At no charge to you, one of our speakers bureau staff can come to your Wake County location and give a 20-30 minute presentation about Resources for Seniors and other general topics, answer questions, and provide resource directories. For more information, contact our Information Services Director at 919-713-1564 or by email.

Transportation Programs

Resources for Seniors administers three different transportation programs. For additional information about these programs, contact our transportation coordinator at 919-713-1556.

Medical Transportation

Medical transportation is a very limited program intended to serve those who have no other means of transportation to medical appointments. Trips are limited to two or three times per month, due to limited funding. Individuals needing transportation to frequent appointments (such as dialysis or chemotherapy) can’t be served.

Transportation is door-to-door by shared van service and can accommodate wheelchair users. Appointments must be made several days in advance of the appointment, and users must complete enrollment paperwork before their first ride.

To be eligible, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Wake County resident
  • Be at least 60 years old
  • Live inside/outside the city limits of Raleigh and Cary
  • Does NOT have Medicaid (because Medicaid has its own transportation program)
  • Does NOT have a valid driver’s license
  • Has no other means of transportation
  • Cannot be an active driver
  • Have no other means of transportation
  • Inability to drive safely
  • Cannot be a temporary situation

  • Be 60 years of age or older
  • Be approved for congregate meals by Meals on Wheels before registering for transportation
  • Live within five miles of an established meals site
  • Register with the Resources for Seniors transportation coordinator

There is no charge for Nutrition Site Transportation, though individuals are invited to contribute if able.
