Consultation & Referral Specialist

Resources for Seniors, Inc.is seeking candidates for a Consultation Referral Specialist to work in our main office located in Raleigh, NC.  The primary responsibility for the position is to assist potential and current clients in locating services for older and/or disabled adults.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Information and Assistance
  • Answer phone calls from general public, respond to emails, and meet with walk-in or community-based clients regarding a
  • variety of needs that older adults or disabled adults may have:
    • Assess the need & explore client’s own resources to meet the need;
    • Evaluate resources:
      • If needed, research available programs or seek more information;
      • Provide referrals;
      • Follow up to determine if needs were met.
    • Explain available programs and how to access them; advocate as needed;
    • If needed, provide more in-depth support through Case Assistance;
    • Complete intakes for RFS programs.
Resource Management
  • Assist with database updates (and Resource Directory production) through telephone calls, email, and other research;
  • Increase departmental knowledge base by continually learning about available programs and services, being alert to new programs being offered, and sharing knowledge with coworkers & the community;
Expand Knowledge of Community Resources Externally
  • Participate as a member of the RFS Speaker’s Bureau, responding to speaking requests;
  • Prepare and perform presentations or organize speakers to meet community needs;
  • Represent the organization at community health fairs and outreach events.
Oversee Limited Transportation funding & special projects as assigned
  • Register riders for the County’s Elderly and Disabled Transportation Assistance; Program;
  • Monitor the usage of EDTAP funds to adhere to monthly allocations;
  • Review and approve monthly transportation invoices from Wake County EDTAP.
The qualified candidate would meet the criteria listed below:
  • A four-year degree in a social science field or its equivalent;
  • Two years of experience in the provision of community relations and direct services;
  • Excellent time management, communication, listening, written and organizational skills;
  • Helpful demeanor, patient and understanding of the needs of the aging, disabled and low-income population;
  • Ability to compile, maintain, and utilize complete and accurate computer information systems, records, and reporting;
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and organizations with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate numerous projects.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, verbally communicate or hear;

The position is a full time, exempt and benefit eligible position.
