Senior Centers Update

Senior Centers Update-Resource for Seniors

We want to provide some updates for both the Northern and Eastern Wake Senior Centers. We are excited to announce that online classes will resume next week! Until the fire last week, most Zoom classes were streamed from a recording room in the Northern Wake Senior Center. Because this is no longer possible, we have adjusted provide your regularly scheduled online classes next week; this applies to members of both centers. Remember, in order to attend online classes, you must have previously signed up and turned in a waiver. We are not accepting new participants at this time. Zoom links will be the same as they have been. Contact the senior center if you do not have the Zoom link for a class you signed up for.

We are making progress! Our staff now has a location to work from, meaning we will be able to continue doing the behind-the scenes work that is required to provide your normal classes. We have also regained access to our phone system (we have not had access since the fire) and will begin the process of returning calls that were missed this past week. Additionally, we have already found alternate locations for several in person classes. Plans are still in the works. Stay tuned for more information.

Good news! Weather permitting, the Eastern Wake Senior Center will be opening on Monday, August 1st, which is a day earlier than we previously expected. Keep in mind, this is weather permitting, but we are excited to announce that we expect to be able to open sooner. This means we will only be closed for six weekdays. Meals on Wheels will still be opening on August 2nd.

We would also like to clarify that chair yoga IS still occurring this week, as are all in person classes through the EWSC. All offsite and online classes will still be available while the center is closed due to the work being done in the parking lot.

Yesterday, the new program coordinator, Kristy Ellis, started her first day at the EWSC! Stop by the senior center to say hi, get lunch through MOW (call 24 hours beforehand), attend classes, and socialize.

Keep an eye out for Cadence drive through BBQ tickets at the Eastern Wake Senior Center. The event will take place on August 11th. Get ready to come out and support the center! Tickets will be available in the coming days.
