Accounting Specialist

Essential Functions:

  • Records all regular accounting transactions including accounts payable, contracts and accounts receivable, cash deposits and any other transactions required;
  • Process payments to vendors;
  • Assist with grant and contract billing, reporting and budget;
  • Assist Accounting Manager and Finance Director with monthly close process;
  • Track and analyze purchase orders, purchase requisitions and invoices and verify proper approvals of each;
  • Special projects as assigned including account analysis, trends, actual vs budget comparisons, etc.
  • Assist in annual budget process and any revisions thereof;
  • Assist with financial reports as directed;
  • Assist with coordination of annual audit.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in accounting or related field; work experience in a not-for-profit organization strongly preferred;
  • Basic understanding of accounting concepts;
  • Proven ability to efficiently organize and prioritize tasks; manage time to meet deadlines successfully;
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with both accounting and programmatic personnel;
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals;
  • Proven ability and desire to assist in systems process improvement and refinement;
  • Proficiency working with Sage Intacct or similar automated accounting software and MS Office applications.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment primarily on site.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time;
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer;
  • Frequently moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery.
