Consultation Specialist/Options Counselor

Resources for Seniors, Inc. is seeking candidates for a Consultation Specialist/Options Counselor at the Main Office.  The primary responsibility for the Consultation Specialist/Options Counselor position is to assist potential and current clients in locating services for older and/or adults with disabilities.  Secondary responsibility is performing duties related to the Resources for Seniors Speaker’s Bureau, SHIIP counseling and community outreach.
PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Conducts telephone needs assessments for individuals at the time of initial contact with the agency by:
    • exploring client’s own resources to meet the need;
    • determining whether there are programs to meet the need by researching available program and seeking more information;
    • explaining available programs and how to access them;
    • assist the client with an application for assistance, if needed;
  • Coordinate, complete intakes and schedule appointments for services such as Options Counseling and Case Assistance;
  • Enter counseling session in STARS database system accurately and timely;
  • Enter client units in State ARMS (NCID) database system accurately and timely;
  • Acts as an advocate for the older adults, adults with disabilities and caregivers throughout the service delivery system;
  • Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings;
  • Performs related duties as required and other duties as requested.
The qualified candidate would meet the criteria listed below:
  • Excellent time management, communication, written, verbal, organizational skills and listen effectively using empathy and inter-personal skills;
  • Must have the ability to use a Person-Centered approach and work well with varying socio-economic and cultural backgrounds among the elderly or disabled population;
  • The ability to work well in a team environment as well as individually with minimal supervision;
  • Must be comfortable working with people in person (post-COVID-19) and over the phone;
  • Increase departmental knowledge base through continuing education/training regarding available programs and services (new & ongoing) and sharing knowledge with coworkers;
  • Ability to compile, maintain, and utilize complete and accurate computer information systems, records, and reporting;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate numerous projects;
  • Bachelor’s degree in social service, nursing, gerontology or related field OR two years’ experience in care coordination, preferably working with older adults OR a combination of education and experience;
  • Obtain certification as a Senior Health Insurance Information (SHIIP) Volunteer for Wake County;
  • Prefer Options Counseling Certification;
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and/or reliable transportation;
  • Prefer bilingual fluent in English and Spanish.

The position is a full time, exempt and benefit eligible position; salary commensurate with experience.
